How to Maintain Clear, Beautiful Skin: A Daily Routine

Keeping your skin young looking and clear is important to most people. The fact is, your skin is an organ, just like your heart or your lungs! It needs to be maintained and taken care of regularly. Otherwise, you can experience a variety of unpleasant (sometimes painful) side effects.

Skin goes through a lot of wear and tear.

It’s easy for bacteria and debris to build up and clog sensitive pores, resulting in breakouts, chronic acne, and even nasty, painful cysts. Incorporating a regular skincare session into your daily schedule is important for every person, regardless of skin type.

First of all, always remember to wash your face before bed. Whether you wear a full face of makeup or none at all, it’s equally important to keep your skin washed and moisturized. Pick up a package of cleaning and clarifying wipes at your local drugstore to make removing makeup easy.

washing your face

Make sure to gently wash your face with a good cleanser that’s well-suited to your skin type – COUI’s Nourishing Facial Cleansing Oil is an affordable, chemical-free cleanser that doubles as a makeup remover and is full of healthy oils that help maintain the moisture levels your skin needs for optimal health.

Use lukewarm water when washing your face, as it encouraged the pores to open up, where cold water will close them. Using water that is too hot can be drying and actually cause more irritation. Make sure to use a clean, fresh towel each time you wash your face so as to discourage the spread of bacteria. You should also be washing your face in the morning after you wake up.

When you’re brushing your teeth and conducting your morning hygiene routine, make some time to wash your face again. Bacteria and debris absorbed by your pillowcase can transfer to the skin on your face while you’re sleeping! Wash pillowcases as frequently as you can with a gentle, perfume-free detergent.

Exfoliating your skin every day is extremely important.

Removing the layer of dead skin cells from the surface of your skin is essential for preventing breakouts from forming. Pimples are caused by the blockage of pores by debris like makeup and excess oils. Dead skin cells can also cause this blockage when not removed properly each day.

exfoliate skin

Find an exfoliant at your local drugstore with alpha hydroxy or lactic acid on the label. Always be gentle with your facial skin – rub softly and gently with a warm cloth, rather than scrubbing your face raw with rough exfoliant beads. This will cause irritation and can remove too much of the outer layer of skin cells, allowing for extra sensitivity to bacteria.

Exfoliating your skin in the shower is ideal – you can find a sulfate-free soap with exfoliating beads to use on the rest of your limbs. You should also use one specifically made for your face – the steam in the shower will open up your pores, enabling the beads to thoroughly dig the grime out of your skin.

If you have oily skin, try oil-absorbing sheets!

Many companies make small, discreet packages you can keep in your purse or pocket to dab your skin dry on the go. Allowing oils and sweat to sit on your skin can enable bacteria to grow and infect your skin. If your skin is dry, you should be moisturizing your skin multiple times a day to maintain a healthy pH balance.

Toner is great for your skin and should also be used daily. COUI’s Ocean Facial Toner cleanses and refreshes the skin by tightening your pores and penetrating the skin with deep hydration. Dab some toner on your face, especially on your T-zone, after washing, in order to prevent impurities from entering the especially-open pores of your face.

You can also go the natural route if you’d like to avoid chemical ingredients or are interested in saving some money. Unfortunately, many cosmetic and skincare products are made with harsh chemicals and dangerous parabens, used for preservation. If Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, toluene, or synthetic colors are on the label, don’t use it! A large amount of products do contain these ingredients, however, so natural skincare may be a great option for you.

coconut oil

Coconut oil is an amazing, revolutionary substance with innumerable uses.

It makes a great makeup remover, moisturizer, cleaner, razor-burn-corrector, and can even add healthy oils to your hair to make it shiny and strong. It’s rich in antioxidants and dense, concentrated oil full of healthy fats that actually provide nutrition to your skin. Studies even suggest that coconut oil can be used to fight skin disease and combat inflammation and dermatitis.

Tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar, raw honey, lemon, and aloe vera can also be topically applied to the skin for facial cleansing and to combat irritation. There are lots of combinations of these ingredients that you can use to make a moisturizing facial mask. Argan oil can even be applied to ease bug bites and itchy spots!

Clear skin is within your reach! It doesn’t matter what your skin type is, or how many breakouts you get – making a few alterations to your routine will get you the beautiful skin you’ve always wanted.
